Reading Horizons, an industry-leading educational software company, is looking for a mid-level Software QA Engineer to join the Quality Assurance Department. Directly working with the Software Engineers and Product Managers, you would be closely integrated into every aspect of the software development process; creating, executing, and documenting quality assurance manual and automated test plans/cases against pre-planned requirements of the software.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Participate/collaborate in specific software planning/review meetings and discussions with Dev, Web, and Product Teams
  • Develop a very strong understanding of all different aspects of the software and projects
  • Own all QA processes including product readiness and software releases
  • Execute manual and automated test plans across several different web/desktop and mobile platforms
  • Perform frontend, backend, and integration testing for internal and external applications
  • Work with Software Engineers to resolve defects and deliver project stories
  • Create and track software bugs/defects in tracking system (Jira, TestRail, etc.)
  • Help document project and feature requirements using project management/documentation tools
  • Basic/advanced script/code manipulation to test/debug different functionalities of code
  • To start, mostly manual testing. This role can and will morph into learning/executing automation, depending on the motivation and performance of the applicant

Minimum Skills and Experience

  • 0-2 years of hands-on manual QA experience
  • Must be able to sit and work on a computer for extended periods of time
  • Motivated and willing to assure the best quality of the software
  • Desire to learn new skills, and be trained in automation and programming
  • Strong knowledge and skills in using modern user interfaces and operating systems including Windows, MAC, Android, and iOS
  • Very organized, creative, detail-oriented, curious, and thorough
  • Can work independently with adequate direction
  • Patience, focus, and ability to jump back and forth testing several different projects and platforms
  • Excellent communication, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Team-oriented
  • Familiar with Agile QA best practices creating test plans, suites, cases, etc.
  • Experience with automation or basic programming fundamentals a plus
  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week.
